Contacts: Your contacts are going to be everyone in your sphere of influence. Contacts consist of your family, friends, vendors, employees, co-workers, and everyone in between. Contacts will also be your prospective leads or clients you once did business with.
Opportunities: A contact will have an opportunity created off of them once an active transaction is going on. Opportunities are separated into Buyers, Listings, and Rentals. A contact can have multiple opportunities. For example, a lead John Doe will begin in the CRM as a contact until you begin working with him. John Doe will get a Buyer Opportunity created for him. Once that transaction is over, he will remain a contact. You will always have the record of his buying opportunity. Two years later, John Doe decides to sell that house you helped him buy. He will now have a Listing Opportunity created for him.
Opportunities will open and close, however contacts will always remain.
